The Guild was founded on 2nd July 1988 as the South African Guild of Church Bell Ringers at a meeting held in Grahamstown, South Africa. This badge was modelled in wax and then cast in silver by Victor Sheppard in 1955, when the creation of a South African Guild was first suggested. The Guild proposals subsequently lapsed for 33 years. No formal badge was produced.
