Durham Diocesan Association of Ringers | Initial name of the Durham & Newcastle Association of Church Bell Ringers. 24 November 1877 - Inaugural meeting of the Durham Association of Ringers, precursor to the Durham & Newcastle Association. Held at North Shields. It adopted its current name after the formation of the Diocese of Newcastle in 1882. It changed its name in 1882 following the creation of the Newcastle Diocesan out of the former larger Durham Diocesan.
