Essex Association
Founded in Writtle, its boundaries are those of the old county of Essex [Research by John Harrison.]
The Revd J B Seaman, curate-in-charge at All Saints Writtle, called a meeting of ringers from the Chelmsford area on 9th May 1879 to consider forming an association for the ringers of Essex. A circular was sent to all incumbents and ringers of parishes within the county of Essex and an inaugural meeting took place at Writtle, near Chelmsford, on 2nd June 1879. The Association predates the Diocese of Chelmsford by some 35 years and its boundaries have remained those of the old county of Essex prior to 1st April 1965. For further background see The Essex Association of Change Ringers Handbook (final section) produced by the Northern District for the 125th Anniversary of the Association.
