Chester Diocesan Guild
This serves the ringers of the diocese of Chester. [Research by John Harrison.]
Edward Barber, a non-ringer who would progress to become the Archdeacon of Chester, introduced the possibility of a Guild of Church Bellringers at the Chester Diocesan Conference in October 1887. At the time he was still a curate, thought to have been influenced by Revd. F E Robinson who had been instrumental in the formation of the Oxford Diocesan Guild in 1881. The inaugural meeting of the Guild was held on 12th November 1887. Further information is provided in the Ringing World (13th November 1987, pages 985 to 986).
