Lancashire Association

10 June 1876 - First meeting of the Lancashire Association of Change Ringers. At the National School-room at Chorley. [Research by John Harrison.]

The Association came into being as a result of a circular:
Sirs,
It has been proposed to form an Association of Change Ringers in Lancashire. We would like to hear your opinion on the above proposition. The objects of the above are: 1st to promote the art and science of change ringing; 2nd belfry reform; 3rd to induce the clergy and churchwardens to take more interest in the ringers and ringing.
Yours respectfully J R Pritchard, W G Mann & J Aspinwall
A meeting was duly held in the National Schools, Chorley on 10th June 1876 at which the officers and committee members were appointed. A more detailed history can be found in Ringing World (16th April 1976, pages 321 to 325). [Research and observations associated with the Council Library Certificates Collection by Chris Ridley.]
