The Yorkshire Association has the Barnsley Society, Doncaster Society and Halifax Guild operating within its boundaries. The formation of an association was first mooted in West Yorkshire at a meeting held in Bradford on 2nd January 1875. A further meeting at York in the July, which attracted 300 ringers, decided that a conference of delegates should meet to draw up a set of rules. This led to the formal setting up of the Association on 30th October 1875 at Birstall near Leeds, with an initial membership of 104 ringers.
