Swansea and Brecon Guild

In 1921 the eastern part of the Diocese of Llandaff was formed into the Diocese of Monmouth. Two years later the large Diocese of St David’s was also divided. The eastern part covering Radnorshire, Breconshire, the Gower Peninsula together with Swansea became the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. Until this point the ringers had been has either been members of the West Wales Association or the Hereford Guild. It was only a matter of a few weeks after the founding of the new Diocese that local ringers decided to form their own Diocesan Guild. A meeting held on 28th October 1923 in Church House, Brecon formerly set up the Swansea and Brecon Diocesan Guild of Bellringers. For further background see the Ringing World (5th October 1973, page 791). [Research and observations associated with the Council Library Certificates Collection by Chris Ridley.]
