Yorkshire Association

The Yorkshire Association has the Barnsley Society, Doncaster Society and Halifax Guild operating within its boundaries. [Research by John Harrison.]

The formation of an association was first mooted in West Yorkshire at a meeting held in Bradford on 2nd January 1875. A further meeting at York in the July, which attracted 300 ringers, decided that a conference of delegates should meet to draw up a set of rules. This led to the formal setting up of the Association on 30th October 1875 at Birstall near Leeds, with an initial membership of 104 ringers. For further background see the Ringing World (17th October 1975, pages 861 to 865). [Research and observations associated with the Council Library Certificates Collection by Chris Ridley.]
